The Nottingham Sportsman's Club The Nottingham Sportsman's Club is a men's club which was started in 1944 by a group of friends on the east side of Detroit. The objective of the organization is the encouragement of true sportsmanship with the Club Motto: “BE THE SPORT YOU THINK YOU ARE.” In the beginning, fishing and hunting as well as golf, bowling, dances, and an occasional cocktail helped the group practice their sportsmanship. There was also a charitable side to this club with committees for fund raising, blood drives, and even a scholarship fund. A genuine atmosphere of camaraderie and benevolence has helped to keep this organization strong for over 75 years. Today's membership continues to compete in our golf league and host functions such as card parties and dances and still enjoys an adult beverage now and then. We have also remained a social club with a heart, continuing to help those in need with donations raised by our charity events. For more than 25 years, the Club's largest fundraiser has been our Charity Golf Outing held in June on the Saturday before Father's Day. The outing has been a tremendous opportunity to exercise our Motto while we help raise funds for organizations that really help make this world a better place for those in need. The Club realizes there are many worthy charities but has always tried to keep donations close to home. Some names are recognizable, The Salvation Army, Michigan Special Olympics, and the Red Cross to name a few. Some lesser known but equally worthy charities have also benefited. Kids on the Go, helping kids with developmental skills, Lighthouse Outreach Center helping distribute food to homebound seniors, and Project Help whose members knit hats, scarves, and mittens for underprivileged children. Your participation at our events, whether social or charitable, is recognized and appreciated. It helps make us the club we are today. The members of the Nottingham Sportsman's Club would like to thank you for your support both past and present. |
